International Driving Permits
Note, the Australian Embassy in Tokyo does not issue International Driving Permits.
An International Driver's Permit is not a licence, you must also have a current Australian licence. You may only use an International Driver's Permit for one year after your arrival in Japan.
If you want to continue driving in Japan you MUST obtain a Japanese licence before 365 days have passed since your initial arrival in Japan.
This rule is regardless of whether or not you have a valid International Driver's Permit, the 365 days is counted from your initial arrival date in Japan, NOT from when your International Driver's Permit was issued.
