If you need help in a consular emergency you should approach or call the Embassy or Consulate nearest to you.
Consular Operations Centre
If it is after working hours and you are unable to contact the Embassy or consulates you can obtain consular assistance from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade 24 hour Consular Operations Centre in Canberra.
The Centre is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergency services.
Contact is available in the following ways:
- Call the Embassy on 03-5232-4111 and follow the instructions on the recorded message
- Call 03-5232-4101 from anywhere in Japan; this will put you straight through to Consular Operations Centre in Canberra
- If your family in Australia is calling the Centre on your behalf they can do so by calling 1300 555 135 or 02 6261 3305 (rates apply)
