Notarial Services
Australian Consular Officers are authorised to perform certain notarial acts (processes of authentication (Ninsho) on documents executed in Australia for use overseas, or executed overseas for use in Australia.
Consular officers can assist with a range of notarial acts on documents executed overseas including:
- Certified copies of documents
- Authentication (Ninsho) and witnessing of signatures on certain documents
- Witnessing powers of attorney (Ininjo no sign shomei)
- Administration of oaths and affirmations

Taking of statutory declarations (Sensei kyojitusho)

- Signature witnessing and photograph certification for renewal of Australian Driver's Licences

- Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage
Many of these types of matters lie within the jurisdiction of the individual States and Territories and requirements for witnessing vary from authority to authority.

Under the Consular Fees Act of 1955 a scale of fees apply to Notarial and passport services.
