Notarial Services
We provide notarial services, or the legalisation of documents, in Japan. These services are only for Australians or for cases where the documents are Australian in origin or for use in, or requested by, Australia.

Notarial services provided in Japan
- Certifying Copies of original documents

Witnessing Signatures on certain documents, for example:
- statutory declarations (sensei kyojitusho)
- Australian Driver's Licence renewals
- signature certificates (sign shomei)
- wills and powers of attorney (ininjo no sign shomei)
- Certificates of No Impediment to Marriage
- Marriage recognition letter (at the request of Japanese Immigration)
- Authentications
- Affidavits, Oaths and Affirmations
- Binding documents
Lodging your documents
By Mail
Only documents requiring certification or Authentication, and appropriately witnessed applications for a Certificate of No Impediment can be mailed to your nearest Australian mission along with the correct payment and a return stamped self-addressed envelope. All fees are payable in cash, Japanese yen; or by a postal money order (yuubin kawase), which is available at the post office. We aim to return documents within 5 working days.
Documents mailed without the correct payment will be returned unprocessed.

The full range of our notarial services is available in person. Please contact your nearest Australian mission for times and availability.
