Signature Certificates (Sign Shomei)
Australians in Japan are often asked for a "signature certificate/sign shomei" when buying a car, renting an apartment or opening a business.
Blank "signature certificate" forms are available for download:

- Download Blank Signature Certificate (DOC)
Fill in your:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Passport number
- Issue date
- Address
Your signature needs to be witnessed by the Consul. Please do not sign before attending the Embassy.
Please note an appointment is necessary and can be made by calling the Consular Section on 03-5232-4111.
Appointments at the Australian Embassy are available:
Monday, Wednesday and Thursday
9:30 - 12:00
If you require an appointment at one of the regional Consulates, contact them directly to arrange an appointment.
You will need to bring your:
- Alien Registration Card
- Australian passport
- Fee (payable in cash)
