Police and character clearances from Australia

Australians living abroad, and other nationalities that have lived in Australia, often need police or character certificates (Muhanzai shomeisho) for such purposes as court requirements, residence permission or securing employment. The Embassy plays no part in obtaining such clearances other than to provide the contact details of the appropriate issuing authorities.

Police Certificates (including those with fingerprint checks) may be obtained from the Australian Federal Police or your relevant State or Territory police services. Please click here for more information.

A Japanese Police Certificate can be obtained through your Prefectural Police Headquarters.
