Visa Evidencing - obtaining a visa label
Visa Evidencing
If you have been granted a visa by another DIAC office and a visa label is required, you may have the visa evidenced in your passport at this office, in person or by post.
You should provide the following documents:
- Current passport
- Visa grant notification letter
and, if applicable:
- Self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage for the return of your passport(s) by registered post (kakitome).
There is no charge for this service. Please allow up to five working days for your passport to be returned.
Visa Re-Evidencing
If you would like to have your visa label transferred into your new passport, or into your current passport whose name has been changed, you may do so in person or by post at this office or your nearest DIAC office in Australia.
You should provide the following documents:
- Current passport
- Previous passport with your visa label in it
and, if applicable:
- Police report recording the loss of your previous passport
- Evidence of change of name since the grant of your visa (Koseki Tohon or Marriage Certificate)
- Self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage for the return of your passport(s) by post (kakitome).
Please note that re-evidencing of Resident Return Visas attracts a charge. You should complete Form 1085 and pay the relevant fee in cash or postal money order (yubin kawase).
If you have a valid visa label in your old passport, you may enter Australia if you carry both passports with you. However, if your name has been changed, your visa must be re-evidenced in your new name.
If you have been granted an eVisa, your visa is linked to your passport, and you must advise the relevant eVisa helpdesk of your new passport details before travelling on your new passport. Please send an email to the relevant address (see below) with your Name, Date of Birth, TRN and the following details from your new passport: Number, Issue Date, Expiry Date, Issuing Authority.
